A native Californian, I was born in my grandparents' Los Angeles apartment, raised in the orange groves of the San Fernando Valley, and, except for three recent years in lovely Minnesota, have lived my adult life on the northern coast of this glorious state .
For my sixteenth birthday my parents gave me a Kodak Instamatic camera, and with both trepidation and glee I developed its precious spindles of film in my high school photography class. A few years later, a friend lent me a very substantial Canon slr with its three essential lenses, and off I went. My experimental subjects then were the kids, characters, and off-beat activities in my Venice Beach neighborhood where I used my kitchen as a darkroom. Those early portraits are still some of my favorites.
I have never focused on one type of photography any more than I could ever follow one career path--there's too much to catch my eye and mind! Some of my enterprises have included artists' model, clothing designer, building sub-contractor; home-school parent, writer, and organic produce business owner. Some of these gigs overlapped and some even have endured, but always art prevails.
